Relic Wine Cellars

Relic Wine Cellars’ co-founders and husband and wife team, Mike Hirby and Schatzi Throckmorton, met in Napa Valley in 2000 while working at a winery. Over the years, they each became inspired by the pioneering winemakers they admired and the techniques they used: native yeast fermentation, whole-cluster fermentation, extended lees aging, “historic” winemaking, and with that, the idea of Relic began to take shape. Serendipitously, Mike was introduced to two growers with amazing vineyards, and agreements were made for 2 tons of pinot noir for the 2001 harvest... and Relic was born.
